Catch Up After LA

Hey guys!

I’m really sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. I was busy getting ready for my trip to LA with my modeling and talent agency. It was so much fun! There were so many great opportunities, and I made new friends that I’m pretty sure will last for the rest of our lives. 💝

On Saturday, January 31st, 2015, I had the pleasure of going to SU Magazine’s 15th birthday celebration. It was a red carpet event, which was way cool! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to walk the red carpet. The party was still super fun, though! They had some of their models doing fashion shows, as well as some giveaways. People from my group ended up winning both of them. 🙂

The party was a ton of fun after our photo shoot in the desert! I’ll try to get some pictures up on both of my Facebook pages (the one for the blog you’re reading, and my space for acting and modeling)

Here are the links to both of those pages:

On our way to In-N-Out

So since this is a fashion blog, here are some outfits that I’ve worn recently.

image

I wore this outfit on Sunday. I was doing homework most of the day, so this was the perfect “cute and casual” outfit. Jeans are always a good idea, as they never go out of style, and the same goes for Converse. The mint green shirt is a pretty pastel, perfect for the approaching spring season! 🌹

image

I wore this outfit on Monday. I love the floral patterned skirt paired with, believe  or not, a bodysuit and tights. The lace on the sleeves adds a cute, girly touch, even under the leather jacket. Adding a jean or leather jacket can totally changed the look of your outfit. It can make it more casual, or, depending on how you style it, even a little more dressed up. Jackets like this one are definitely a must-have for every girls closet!

This is what I’m wearing today (Wednesday). As you already know, I love plaid, so yeah…. A cute, fun, city-girl twist on a classic country look. ☺

I’ll be posting a new article on here in a few days for Valentine’s Day! Make sure you follow me so you know when it’s up!
Please tell your friends and family if you love the blog! It’d really mean a lot! Ajay, please let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions for me! If live to hear your (the readers’) input!

Thanks guys!
Hour you have a great rest of your week!

Spring 2015

Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Spring?! Already?! But there’s still snow on the ground!” (Where I live at least)

If you’re really into the fashion world, you know that the collections stores carry are usually about one season ahead. Since it’s now winter, stores are preparing for spring, and warmer weather.

One of my face designers right now is the amazing Bethany Mota. This girl has a YouTube channel, her own fashion line at Aero, AND has completed on Dancing With The Stars! And did I mention that she’s only 19 years old?!? But back to her ah-maz-ing collection at Aero. Bethany’s new spring collection will launch in stores TOMORROW, Saturday, January 10, 2015! Seventeen Magazine recently posted some sneak peak pictures:

As you can probably tell, this super-cute collection is love-themed, which makes it perfect for Valentine’s Day! The “ILY” sweater is a school appropriate option for this holiday, while the corasl/peach dress with a heart-shaped cutout in back (my personal fave!) is a perfect option for anyone who has a Valentine’s Day date! 🌹

Another one of my favorite collections is Material Girl, designed by (the one-and-only Madonna and her teenage daughter. The brand recently named Disney Channel star, Zendaya as a new face for them! Seventeen Magazine has an article on Zendaya and the brand. (I included a hyperlink to the article in the sentence above so that you guys could find it easily!)

The Material Girl collection has a lot of pieces that fit my personal style, with bright colors, bold patterns, cute sayings, as well as some edgier pieces that include leather detailing.

The new Spring collection from Material Girl will also be hitting stores soon!  Here are some pictures from the article on Seventeen’s website:

Winter Wonderland

Hey guys!
I hope you all have a happy holidays this week!
If you’re following me on Twitter (@koolcurlie1 and @StyleBlog102), you know that I’ve been working with Love Jones of http://www.asmalllittlebox.blogspot.com on this post. At the end, go check out her blog, too!

As you can probably tell from the title,  this post has a “Winter Wonderland” theme. I’ll  be highlighting some  “Do’s and Don’ts”, this season’s must haves, and some fun accessories and nails.

First up, some “Do’s and Don’ts”. Just some general guidelines for that you do/don’t end up on “Fashion Police” (being featured on that show can be a good thing sometimes).

● DO- wear some sparkle,  but DON’T go overboard.
Wearing sparkle during the holidays can be both cute and fun, but make sure that you don’t leave the house looking like the house (the tree, tinsel,  ornaments,  or the lights outside). It’s not fun to look at an outfit that’s head-to-toe sparkle,  especially under lights.  It gets  to be way too much to look at, so if you’re going to do sparkle, keep it simple!

image

●DO dress appropriately for the weather.
If you live somewhere like California,  you can totally get away with wearing a cute little dress or skirt without tights, but since it’s chilly in the morning, make sure you have a light sweater or jean jacket. If you live someplace that gets a lot of snow, you’ll want to wear tights with your skirts or dresses, as well as a sweater or jacket. Chances are, you know what the weather is like where you live, so please don’t freeze or overheat by not dressing appropriately for the weather!

●DO wear flannel shirts.
This is one trend that everyone can rock this season! That’s right guys, this one’s for you, too.
Flannels come in a variety of colors and patterns, plus they’re super soft. My fave is plaid. (For more on plaid, check out  my first post!) No matter how you wear them, flannels are totally the way to go when you want to look cute, but still want to be comfortable!

image

Next on our Winter Wonderland fashion adventure: Must Haves. These are some items that every girl should have, and they won’t go out of style after this season!

●The little black dress.
You see it in virtually every magazine, and they all say that every girl needs to have one in their closet. Most people think that a black dress is for special events, and that’s not wrong. A black dress is perfect for any and every event that you could ever go to, paired with the right things, of course.
For us teens (or even tweens) out there, sparkly jewelry is always a good idea. It’s cute, fun, and it shows personality. You can probably guess what I’m going to say next: Don’t go overboard with the sparkle!!!
Cute shoes are another awesome way to make this classic dress fun.

image

image

For a more formal event, a pair of cute (and age appropriate) heels are definitely the way to go. Otherwise, flats are always a great option  (plus they’re sensible – your feet won’t ache after being out all evening). If you’re planning on sticking with all black, a colored pair of shoes adds a nice pop to any outfit.

image

image
(Sorry my flats are really old and don't look the best!)

image

Depending on the event you’re going to, make sure you keep your makeup age appropriate as well! We don’t need any 12-year-olds looking 17, or 17-year-olds looking 20. Having on makeup is totally fine, just make sure that you still look like you.
For a more casual look, try throwing a jean jacket or a cute plaid shirt over it. Instantly school appropriate!

image

Finally, no outfit is complete without a super-cute hairstyle. It depends on your hair type and texture as to what you can easily so with your hair. I have really thick, curly hair, which is hard to do a lot with, so most of the time I just leave it down. If you have straight or wavy hair, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I personally love braids. If you braid your hair, a sparkling headband is always a nice touch!

image

● Bethany Mota’s collection at Aero.
This Youtuber – turned – fashion designer has an amazing collection at Aèropostale. She displays her unique style through various patterns, colors, and super-cute sayings on graphic T’s. You can mix and match these pieces, or mix them with what you already have at home. This collection is definitely something to check out this season!

image

● A denim shirt.
You can throw one over literally everything. Seriously. Have on a cute skirt or dress, but don’t want to freeze in class? No problem! A denim shirt is also super-cute with a pair of jeans and a tank underneath. No matter what you put it with, you’re sure to hit a style home run!

image

image

Last up for today is Accessories and Nails.

●One of my fave accessories is a scarf. With about a million different colors and patterns, you can definitely find one to go with any outfit in your wardrobe. Bright colors and bold patterns can be a great way to add interest to a plain shirt or sweater.

●Statement pieces.
These are, obviously, a great way to make a statement. If you’re wearing an outfit that doesn’t have a lot going on, add a pair of cute earrings OR a bold necklace. Please don’t do both in one outfit– it it gets to be way too overwhelming. Pick one, and let it do the talking.

image

●Nails
I personally love having my nails painted, but never have the chance because of sports.
I found the cutest nail art YouTube channel called cutepolish. She posts step-by-step nail art tutorials of super-cute and really easy nail art designs. I love the Christmas playlist.

image

There’s a ton of cute nail ideas just in time for the holidays! Some of my favorites are the Pepermint Swirl and Pastel Penguins.

Holiday 2014 Trends

With Hanukkah in just two weeks, Christmas in three, and New Years shortly after that, the holiday season is pretty much here. Family, friends, food,  and of course,  fashion! Here’s your guide to holiday fashion 2014.

It seems like every year around the holidays every store has a ton of super-cute sparkly and sequined outfits.  What girl doesn’t like some glitter?!?

I know it’s super tempting to want a head-to-toe look that’s pretty much all sequined, but usually, it gets way too overwhelming for one look. Extra emphasis on usually. Like most rules,  this one does  have an exception. That exception being this: if you’re wearing a dress that has sequins in it. This will give you that “all-over” sparkle that you want,  without being distracting.

image

I love this dress that I have! It has sequins all the way through it, without being all like “Bam! Sparkle in your face!” If you happen to find a sequined dress, but feel it might be a little too much, there are ways to tone down the sparkle-factor.

For a more casual look, try throwing a jean jacket over you dress and pairing it with a cute pair of flats.

image

For a more dramatic look, you can throw a fuzzy jacket over it. If you don’t already have one,  fuzzy jackets are really “in” right now, so you’ll definitely be able to find one somewhere! Here’s a pic of my fave new jacket:

image

Another great way to wear the festive seasonal trend of sequins is in a skirt! Again, make sure you keep the focus on your skirt by not wearing anything too busy for a top. Paired with the right things, a sequined skirt can be just the thing your  holiday wardrobe needs!

image

If you’re not really the dress – wearing type, you can always opt for a super cute sweater! I’m personally obsessed with Bethany Mota’s collection at Aero. I think she’s amazing, and I can’t wait for her new collection launching this weekend! ♥ I love this sweater in stores now:

No matter what you wear this holiday season,  make sure it has some sparkle!

Plaid: A classic country look with a city girl twist

Hey everyone!

This is my FIRST post on StyleBlog102. I couldn’t be happier to say that! If you read the About page, you already know a little bit about me.
My name is Alexis,  I’m 17 years old, and live in the United States. I’ve always loved fashion, but I got even more into it when I started modeling and acting. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really been able to make my style my own, and that’s what helps to make me, me. The same goes for the rest of you,  too. Your style is what helps to define you as n individual; it’s what makes you stand out from the other people in your school,  and even from your siblings.

This first post is dedicated to one of my personal style obsessions: plaid.
I’m a fan of country music,  and the country is exactly what most people think of when they see plaid, so maybe that’s why I like it so much. Plaid flannels are the perfect thing to throw on when it’s well below freezing (32ºF), like it was today.

image

But I’m here to tell you that plaid doesn’t always have to scream country. You can give it a fun, modern,  city girl twist. Today,  I opted for my  black Converse hightops instead of my usual boots:

image

image

But keeping with the city twist on country, one of my personal faves is going for a plaid skirt. It’s plaid, yes, but it doesn’t scream country right in your face. If you style one correctly, it’ll look cute, casual,  and put together. In the pictures below, I’m wearing a plaid skirt with a grey sweater,  and a cream puffy vest. In the last picture, I’m wearing the skirt with a dark denim jean jacket. (Layers are so great, especially in the winter which is when I wear the most plaid.)

image

If you wanted some of this fun pattern in your outfit,  but didn’t want to go overboard,  you might want to consider a bag or a backpack. It can be a great way to incorporate a pattern into your daily life, without overpowering your outfit. Tne best thing about opting for a patterned bag is that it doesn’t even have to match the rest of your outfit! I use this plaid backpack when I want to add something different to my appearance. It’s cute and fun, without being distracting:

image

Of course,  there’s always going to be those days when you feel like going for a more “classic”  country look, featuring none other than a plaid flannel in your fave color,  complete with a matching bandanna:

image

However you wear it, plaid is like denim jeans- it never goes out of style! When you put this pattern with the right things,  you’re sure to hit a style home run!
