Dalton’s Denim Corner

My name is Dalton Bartz and Alexis asked me to put together the first post on her blog about men’s style. I decided to start with some ruggedly cool tips on wearing denim.

Denim is always a good choice for a cool style that will have you feeling tough and rugged. Do it right, and you’ll feel ready to have a shoot-out with Billy the Kid. The problem is, it’s extremely easy to wear too much. Don’t worry too much though, I got you fam.

The safest route for denim is to only have one piece. If you’re going with classic blue jeans, feel free to top off your look with a thermal, plain tee, or really anything you want for a nice casual look. Jeans are a classic and incredibly versatile, so try different combinations. Tuck in your t-shirt to show off that new belt, or wear it with a loose button-up to look a little more professional while staying comfortable.

If you’re not feeling blue jeans and would rather break out your jean jacket, then once again the safest route is to make that the only denim you wear. Wear any pants you have that create a little contrast. Khakis are a safe choice, but feel free play around with it and find what works best for you!

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to go full Canadian tuxedo you’ll want to keep a few things in mind. Wearing more than one piece of denim can create a really rugged and tough look, but it’s really easy to go overboard. A great way to keep it balanced is to create separation. You can simply wear different washes of denim, but another stylish way to help create that separation is to use another clothing item. If you’re wanting to rock that denim jacket, but all your khakis are in the washing machine, then still the only thing you’ll need is a long thermal underneath in a complimenting color (white is normally a great choice) to trail out from underneath the jacket. This is a simple way to create distance between your jacket and jeans so it’s not too overwhelming.

Denim has always been a staple in rugged fashion, but some people find it intimidating. As long as you keep these guidelines in mind, you’ll be able to spend your days feeling as manly as John Wayne.
