Plaid: A classic country look with a city girl twist

Hey everyone!

This is my FIRST post on StyleBlog102. I couldn’t be happier to say that! If you read the About page, you already know a little bit about me.
My name is Alexis,  I’m 17 years old, and live in the United States. I’ve always loved fashion, but I got even more into it when I started modeling and acting. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really been able to make my style my own, and that’s what helps to make me, me. The same goes for the rest of you,  too. Your style is what helps to define you as n individual; it’s what makes you stand out from the other people in your school,  and even from your siblings.

This first post is dedicated to one of my personal style obsessions: plaid.
I’m a fan of country music,  and the country is exactly what most people think of when they see plaid, so maybe that’s why I like it so much. Plaid flannels are the perfect thing to throw on when it’s well below freezing (32ºF), like it was today.

But I’m here to tell you that plaid doesn’t always have to scream country. You can give it a fun, modern,  city girl twist. Today,  I opted for my  black Converse hightops instead of my usual boots:

But keeping with the city twist on country, one of my personal faves is going for a plaid skirt. It’s plaid, yes, but it doesn’t scream country right in your face. If you style one correctly, it’ll look cute, casual,  and put together. In the pictures below, I’m wearing a plaid skirt with a grey sweater,  and a cream puffy vest. In the last picture, I’m wearing the skirt with a dark denim jean jacket. (Layers are so great, especially in the winter which is when I wear the most plaid.)

If you wanted some of this fun pattern in your outfit,  but didn’t want to go overboard,  you might want to consider a bag or a backpack. It can be a great way to incorporate a pattern into your daily life, without overpowering your outfit. Tne best thing about opting for a patterned bag is that it doesn’t even have to match the rest of your outfit! I use this plaid backpack when I want to add something different to my appearance. It’s cute and fun, without being distracting:

Of course,  there’s always going to be those days when you feel like going for a more “classic”  country look, featuring none other than a plaid flannel in your fave color,  complete with a matching bandanna:

However you wear it, plaid is like denim jeans- it never goes out of style! When you put this pattern with the right things,  you’re sure to hit a style home run!
