Museum of Memories — Mall of America

The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota is known for being the largest mall in America, with hundreds of stores, restaurants, and experiences to enjoy. I’m lucky enough to have grown up just a half hour away from this iconic tourist location.

Currently, Nickelodeon Universe is closed because of COVID-19, but the mall still has plenty to offer its guests. One of these experiences includes the Museum of Memories.

This is a pop-up museum located on the second floor of the mall between Macy’s and Nordstrom. It’s a walk-through experience where each room is designed to a different theme. Typically, it takes people about an hour to go through the whole thing, but there isn’t a time limit.

When I saw this was at the Mall, I knew I had to go! My boyfriend Andrew went with me, and we had so much fun!

The cloud room was definitely my favorite. We got some photos that turned out great and look really artsy!

One room had walls that looked like giant coloring pages! Props included a giant crayon, a giant paintbrush, and a paint tube big enough to sit on!

This room reminded me of getting my first cell phone in middle school! I’m only 22, but my first phone was a flip phone that you had to buy minutes for and press the buttons multiple times to get the letters you wanted while texting.

A room that’s all about ice cream? Sign me up! This room was so cute and fun! The candy on the wall made it extra sweet!

Another super-sweet room was this amazing cake and cherry room! The larger-than-life cake slices made for some great photo props. I don’t recommend trying to take a picture that looks like you’re sliding down the cake slice that’s tipped over (seen in the background of the first photo below). It was hard to stay balanced long enough to get a photo and there are plenty of other fun photo ops in this room that you won’t get hurt doing.

Overall, I thought this experience was definitely worth it. I will say that the entrance fee is a little on the pricey side. I paid for our admission online, and was only able to pay for two adults. When we got there, we saw a sign that listed a student price. If you’re planning on going and you’re a student, I’d suggest bringing your student ID and paying at the door to save a few dollars!

I’ll be updating this post soon with more photos and information. Please check back soon!

Until then, thank you so much for reading!

Disney World Food Reviews

Hey everyone,

Today we’re talking about everything food related at Disney World!

Megan and I are going to tell you what we thought of the restaurants we ate in and the snacks we had!

Intermission Food Court:

Megan:

I only ate at the Intermission Food Court a handful of times, but the staff there was very kind and very good about keeping tables cleared and clean. Seating options were classic tables with chairs– or booths! (Guess which one I sat in)

The first day we hadn’t eaten much, so one of the first things we did was hit up our resort’s food court. I had a chicken and avocado sandwich (am I a millennial yet?) with sweet potato fries. It was delicious. It was good that I was starving because otherwise I probably couldn’t have finished it with how much food there was. The next day, I ordered turkey ziti off the kid’s menu. I got to choose a drink and two sides. This was a more manageable amount of food! Finally, before our departure, I got the breakfast platter. Sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and of course, Mickey waffles. Yum!

Alexis:

The Intermission Food Court had decent food. It’s pretty much what you would expect from a quick-service place at a hotel. Even though it’s at Disney world, I still thought it was overpriced. However, everything I had there was hot and it always tasted good!

My favorite thing I had there was the Unicorn Cupcake! I got this while we were waiting for the Magical Express to take us to the airport. Even though it was a vanilla cupcake, the decorations on it were so cute and I loved the sprinkles inside!

Crystal Palace:

Megan:

Hands down, AWESOME experience. We got to get out of the heat, we got to eat, and we got to meet friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore walked around greeting guests at tables, and there was a (mini, indoor) parade celebrating friendship led by the characters.

The building itself was beautiful and the buffet serving style made it easy to enjoy and relax your time at the Palace. Speaking of food, they had all kinds of options. Yogurt and fruit, pastries and pancakes(they were actually Mickey waffles), and an array of warm breakfast hotdishes including scrambled eggs, breakfast meats and potatoes. Of course, I sampled some of everything. I stuffed myself so full that I didn’t eat until later that night. Can attest to the quality of the food, in addition to the quantity.

Alexis:

Overall I absolutely LOVED our time at The Crystal Palace! Like Megan said, the building is gorgeous on the outside, and the inside is just as pretty! The food is served buffet style, and let me tell you, there was no shortage of food. Our character interactions were so much fun! I would definitely come here again because I had a blast!

Be Our Guest:

Megan:

Walking over the bridge to the front doors of the castle was so cool. If only the daily torrential rainstorm had come for breakfast…

I especially liked Beast’s castle because servers greet you in French (which I happen to know a bit of)! Once you choose your meal and pay, you can choose where to sit in any of three rooms. After you’ve eaten, you can check out the other rooms and get pictures of Belle and the Beast (figurines), the Enchanted Rose, and on your way out: the rose window. I highly recommend eating in the ballroom, because it is MAGICAL.

When our server came ’round with their cart, they loaded up our table with a yummy ham and sauce sandwich, an assortment of pastries, and our choice of beverage. Yum!

Alexis:

I’ve been to Be Our Guest for lunch, but this was my first time at the Beast’s Castle for breakfast! Megan and I shared an open faced ham sandwich with a creamy cheese sauce, served with an assortment of pastries. It was more than enough food for the two of us and it was delicious! I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant because it really does look and feel like the Beast’s Castle from the movie!

Rapunzel Cone: Megan:

Megan:

The lost princess cone really hit the spot in that 90°F weather. Purple cone was cool, as were the actual flowers stuck to the side of it. I’ve never eaten a flower before, so they were strangely… Velvety and crunchy, but the Dole whip ice cream was very good. It even had subtle edible glitter on the outside of the ice cream piles. Would definitely eat it again.

Cheshire Cat Tail:

Alexis:

Even though this is just a twisted donut with chocolate chips and colored icing, it was amazing! I would definitely recommend getting one from the Cheshire Cafe in Magic Kingdom!

South Dakota Film Festival 2018

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the South Dakota Film Festival in Aberdeen, SD where one of the student films I did last semester was showing. One of the clubs on my campus took a group of students to the festival, where we stayed for three days and two nights.

I am extremely grateful to the South Dakota Film Festival for accepting and screening “Finale of Seem,” and for being amazing hosts this weekend. It’s every actor’s dream to have their work shown at a festival, big or small, and I know this is just the beginning! If you’d like to keep up with my acting and modeling, please like my Facebook page; there’s a link at the end of this post! If you’d like to watch “Finale of Seem”, please click here.

For day one of the festival, I kept my outfit casual since we were traveling. I wore jeans, a suede tank top with fringes, and a leather jacket. This photo was taken at the after party we attended.

Day two was the day “Finale of Seem” was showing, so I dressed up a little bit. I wore black tights, a black skater skirt, a floral print crop top, and a pinkish overdyed jean jacket with studs. For makeup, I stepped it up a notch from what I usually do, including fake eyelashes.  Click through the slideshow below to see the look with and without the jacket. There’s also a photo of me with Zach Howatt, who was the amazing director for this project! This project was so much fun, and I can’t wait to work with him again in the future!

Day three was another travel day, but I still wanted to  look nice! I wore this black and floral print dress with my leather jacket and flats. I wanted to wear tights again because it was chilly, but they ripped day two.  I did natural makeup, except for the winged eyeliner.

Again, I would like to thank the people at South Dakota Film Festival and MSUM for a great weekend! I am truly so grateful for this experience and hope to go back next year!

Date Night Outfit Inspiration

Dates are stressful enough as it is, especially if the relationship is new. For us girls, picking out the perfect outfit only adds to this stress, and nothing we try on seems to be good enough.

I’m here to help with some ideas for you the next time you catch yourself asking “what should I wear tonight?”

Dressy Night Out

If you’re going somewhere like a nice restaurant and want to dress up, I recommend wearing a nice dress and heels, or a cute skirt and shirt with either flats, boots, or heels. Check out my friend Athena in this adorable long black tutu and long sleeved body suit in the photos below, and one of the outfits I wore at the Twin Cities Film Festival last year. Add a statement necklace or pair of earrings to complete one of these looks and you’ll be set to stun your date wherever you guys end up!

Dressy-Casual

These outfits are for the nights that you wanna look nice, but don’t wanna overdo it. My go-to is a dress with sandals or boots (depending on the season), and a jacket or sweater for a layer. These photos are from last summer, but you could definitely wear a fall or winter dress when it gets cold out and add an infinity scarf. Check out the last photo in this collection for some inspiration!

Casual Night Out

Just because you and your S.O. are doing something low-key, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still look cute! Keep it simple with jeans and a sweater with a layered necklace like my friend Emily! Jeans and a T-shirt are also another great option with a statement necklace or scarf depending on the season.

Even though getting ready for a date can be super stressful, just remember to be yourself!

Back-to-School Outfit Ideas

Today, classes for my third year of college start. I can’t believe I’m already halfway done with college!

My favorite part of school (and going back to school) is the fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to school, learning new things, and meeting new people too, but there’s something about a new outfit that boosts your confidence and makes your feel more prepared for the year ahead.

Syllabus week in college is much more than just the first week of classes, it’s also your only chance to make a good first impression on your professors and classmates. That’s why I always put a little extra effort into my outfits the first week. Now, I’m not saying to change your style completely (unless you want to- there’s nothing wrong with re-inventing your style once in a while!), but looking and feeling good for the first week of classes will definitely make all the difference (Look Good, Feel Good, Act Good).

Tips for Picking the Perfect Outfit(s)

  • Look at the weather forecast for the day; you don’t wanna be stuck in the rain in a cute dress with no jacket or umbrella.
  • Wear sensible shoes for your schedule– If you go to a bigger school and will be walking a lot, heels or wedges probably aren’t a good idea (unless you have flats in your bag!)
  • Dress in layers: It may be warm outside, but classrooms can get pretty chilly so you’ll definitely want a sweater or jean jacket with. Once you know you’re schedule, you’ll quickly figure out which rooms are cooler and which ones are warm.
  • Be yourself! Fashion is all about expressing who you are, and what you’re feeling. Stay true to yourself and you’ll be on track for a great year!

CUTE’N’COMFY

Whoever said that you can’t look cute while still being comfortable is lying. For the first week of classes, it’s still summer, which means summer heat. Shorts and a cute shirt or graphic T-shirt will make it look like you care, but not too much. Natural makeup would go great with a look like this– again, it’s still hot out, and makeup will sweat off by the end of the day. Check out my friend Emily ready for class last year when she picked out her perfect bag for class!

DRESSY-CASUAL

If you want to wear something that looks a little bit nicer than jeans or denim shorts, a pair of dressy shorts like these with a cute shirt or bodysuit looks great, but will still be comfortable for navigating your way around campus. Pair an outfit like this with flats or sandals and you’ll be set for a great day!

CAMPUS FASHIONISTA

If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely want your style game to be on point for syllabus week. My outfits for the first couple days of class are below. Unfortunately, I had to switch out my loose-knit sweater for a pink leather jacket and the wedges for flats for today because it’s chilly with a chance of rain where I’m at today. Tomorrow I’ll have a jean jacket with, as well as flats in my bag in case it gets chilly or my feet start to hurt.

No matter when you start classes, I hope you have a great semester! Remember to stay true to yourself and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.

Life Updates

Hey everyone!

Alexis here,

The purpose of this post is to let you guys know what’s been going on in my life since the last post went up.

I hope you guys enjoyed the posts that my classmates wrote during our second semester in our Social Media Campaigns class. They wrote some great articles and I’m hoping they’ll write an occasional post this year too.

During finals week, I had every intention of posting every week this summer and really focusing on improving this blog. Unfortunately, I ended up going through some personal stuff that has affected my life and has made me not feel like writing. For now, I’m going to keep the details of what happened to myself, and I ask that you guys as my readers please respect that. I will say that I’m finally feeling like myself again and that I’m going to start writing on here like I used to! I have a ton of posts planned and I can’t wait to share them with you all.

I hope you’ve all been enjoying your summer and are looking forward to another great school year! I’ll be doing some posts on back-to-school fashion for every age group, and tips and tricks for incoming college freshmen, plus so much more.

Until next week,

How to Style: Love Your Melon Beanies

Love Your Melon?

Hey there, this is Kristen Madsen, a guest content creator here on Beautiful Chaos. Today I wanted to introduce you to an amazing organization called Love Your Melon.

Alongside a travel mug of coffee and a semi-cute backpack, a Love Your Melon beanie has become a staple among college students in recent years. These hats are more than just a fashion statement, they’re a tangible way to show support for children with cancer.

The Love Your Melon organization was founded in 2012 as a part of an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota by two friends, Zachary and Brian. On a mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer, the goal of the organization is to give one million dollars to pediatric cancer research and provide immediate support and encouragement to kids and their families. Love Your Melon intends to reach this goal by donating 50% of all their sales to their nonprofit partners in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Care to join the movement but you’re not sure how to wear the beanie? We’ve got you covered.

How to Style Your Beanie:

  1. Single Braid: Keep your hair neat and simple and then put the beanie over the top. Pull out a couple of loose strands along the sides, and tug on the braid to loosen it and create texture. This works best with fishtail braids or the traditional simple braid.

IMG_9886

2. Two Braids: Regardless of the length of your hair you can’t go wrong with double braids poking out from under your beanie. It’s a cute and casual style that makes you look like you put in much more effort than you did. This works best with Dutch or French braids.

3. Hair down: Let it fly free. Show off what you’ve got and top it with a beanie as a statement piece.

Valentine’s Day

Hey everyone!

My name is Angela Dahl, and this is my first of two posts here on Beautiful Chaos. With Valentine’s Day only two short days away, I’ll be giving you some ideas for outfits no matter what your plans are for the day.

Since Valentine’s Day is on a Wednesday this year, most of us will be heading to class. You can still get into the holiday spirit, even if you’re spending your day in the classroom. Personally, I have a hot date with an exam, so I will be downplaying my attire.

One of the easiest ways to bring the Valentine’s color palette into your outfit is with the top you choose to wear. In the photos, I wore skinny jeans with the shirts because they are my favorite pant style. If you choose to bring in color with your shirt, you can pair it with gray or black skinny jeans, leggings, or whatever your preferred pant style is. You will notice I wore a pair of short boots with all of these because

I absolutely love how comfy and versatile they are. A pair of flats, heels, or boots of various colors and heights would also look great with all of these.

A solid pink or red shirt is always a classic way to dress for the day. I really like this shirt because it’s plain but still super cute with the little tie details on the sleeves. A solid shirt can be paired with a necklace, but I was really going for a simplistic look here. This simple shirt can become quite classy if paired with black skinny jeans, a necklace, and high heels.

33F9A3FA-1C65-4E0D-8222-0A2C098F9EEF

Velvet shirts in any shade of pink or red would be fitting. I have been obsessed with the velvet trend this year. I love how soft and comfy this shirt is. I paired it with a long necklace, but it could also go with a short one.

55E3BF5C-0475-4EAE-8803-C1579451894A

Choosing a floral shirt with reds and pinks has a subtle hint of the season. This shirt is great because it can be dressed up or down. It can be worn as a casual look, as pictured. When evening comes around, the skinny jeans could be traded in for leggings and boots for heels.

Another way to bring in the color scheme is with the accessories and pants you wear.

AFF79CDF-3C45-47B1-97CE-BBAD76B82425

You can do a combination of pants and accessories or do one or the other. I like the subdued connection between these maroon jeans and the day being celebrated, but any shade of red or pink would look awesome. This red necklace is very elegant and is a great way to take a neutral colored sweater and turn it into the perfect piece for Valentine’s Day.

B581900B-44BE-42F9-B5AB-10182A21CE21

Find your favorite soft cardigan and pair it with a scarf that compliments the holiday. I especially like this scarf because of the association the flowers have with Valentine’s. This would be a really cute to wear throughout the day and out for a dinner date.

26D881F5-A4E2-438C-B16F-6B01B5A01C0B

Dresses can be super fun to wear and might be exactly what you are looking for if you are going out for the evening. I really like this dress because it is very simple but has just the right amount of detail. Both the color and the lace are really fitting for such an occasion.

Whatever you do on February 14th, take advantage of the lovely day and the colors it inspires.
