Back-to-School Outfit Ideas

Today, classes for my third year of college start. I can’t believe I’m already halfway done with college!

My favorite part of school (and going back to school) is the fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to school, learning new things, and meeting new people too, but there’s something about a new outfit that boosts your confidence and makes your feel more prepared for the year ahead.

Syllabus week in college is much more than just the first week of classes, it’s also your only chance to make a good first impression on your professors and classmates. That’s why I always put a little extra effort into my outfits the first week. Now, I’m not saying to change your style completely (unless you want to- there’s nothing wrong with re-inventing your style once in a while!), but looking and feeling good for the first week of classes will definitely make all the difference (Look Good, Feel Good, Act Good).

Tips for Picking the Perfect Outfit(s)

  • Look at the weather forecast for the day; you don’t wanna be stuck in the rain in a cute dress with no jacket or umbrella.
  • Wear sensible shoes for your schedule– If you go to a bigger school and will be walking a lot, heels or wedges probably aren’t a good idea (unless you have flats in your bag!)
  • Dress in layers: It may be warm outside, but classrooms can get pretty chilly so you’ll definitely want a sweater or jean jacket with. Once you know you’re schedule, you’ll quickly figure out which rooms are cooler and which ones are warm.
  • Be yourself! Fashion is all about expressing who you are, and what you’re feeling. Stay true to yourself and you’ll be on track for a great year!

CUTE’N’COMFY

Whoever said that you can’t look cute while still being comfortable is lying. For the first week of classes, it’s still summer, which means summer heat. Shorts and a cute shirt or graphic T-shirt will make it look like you care, but not too much. Natural makeup would go great with a look like this– again, it’s still hot out, and makeup will sweat off by the end of the day. Check out my friend Emily ready for class last year when she picked out her perfect bag for class!

DRESSY-CASUAL

If you want to wear something that looks a little bit nicer than jeans or denim shorts, a pair of dressy shorts like these with a cute shirt or bodysuit looks great, but will still be comfortable for navigating your way around campus. Pair an outfit like this with flats or sandals and you’ll be set for a great day!

CAMPUS FASHIONISTA

If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely want your style game to be on point for syllabus week. My outfits for the first couple days of class are below. Unfortunately, I had to switch out my loose-knit sweater for a pink leather jacket and the wedges for flats for today because it’s chilly with a chance of rain where I’m at today. Tomorrow I’ll have a jean jacket with, as well as flats in my bag in case it gets chilly or my feet start to hurt.

No matter when you start classes, I hope you have a great semester! Remember to stay true to yourself and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.
