Twin Cities Film Festival

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Twin Cities Film Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of the groups I’m part of took a group of students to the Festival to represent the school and see some amazing movies by directors from across the country.

I was at the Festival for three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and had an amazing time!

Here’s a quick breakdown of my outfits from the weekend:

Friday was my first day at TCFF, and that night also happened to be “Industry Night”. We had access to the lounge where there was a DJ, games, and an art gallery. The night was a great opportunity for networking and meeting other people in the industry. I wanted to look nice to make a good first impression on the people I was meeting that night, so I wore a red dress, tan jacket, and brown ankle boots. Check out my look below:

Saturday was a chilly and rainy day 2. I wore a floral print maxi skirt and the same jacket from Friday’s look. I unfortunately didn’t get a photo that day, but I’ll get a photo up on Twitter soon and update this post when I get it! For now, here’s a photo of my hair and makeup!

The weekend went by fast, and before I knew it, it was already Sunday! For my last day at TCFF, I decided to wear a pink-and-black dress, black leather jacket, and black flats. I love what I did with my hair for this look! It kept my hair out of my face, while still showing off my curls, which is always good.

Fargo Finds

A couple weeks ago I found myself wandering around Fargo with one of my friends. As we went in and out of the various shops and boutiques, I found a couple of items that I absolutely needed to get.

Now, the last two things my closet needs are more jackets, and more shoes. What did I find myself purchasing? A jean jacket and a not one, but two pairs of shoes (one of the pairs of shoes was on sale for $10 though).

I went back downtown with one of my friends this last week and we took some photos of my most recent finds in downtown Fargo.

First up, the denim jean jacket. Right now, boyfriend/oversized jean jackets are on trend, and I’ve been dying to get one. The one I found is super cute with the different patches on the front and the graphic on the back. It’s fun and something that I know I’ll get a lot of use out of because it’s something that totally matches my personality.

I found this at a cute store called Proper. They have a ton of cute things, and I can definitely say that I’ll be back the next time I’m going shopping. There’s also a location in Minneapolis. Click here to visit their website and check out some of their looks!

It’s pretty safe to say that I am more than a little bit obsessed with these metallic tennis shoes. They’re such a fun statement piece, yet they’re still practical to wear. I paired them with this floral printed dress and the jean jacket for a fun, yet casual outfit. I can’t wait to find other things to wear them with. I found these at Charmed Boutique. I thought the store was super cute and can’t wait to go back. Check out their website and Facebook page!

I tried to tie this look together by incorporating some hints of metallic in my necklaces, earrings, and lipstick to match the shoes. Looking back, I think a matte lipstick would have been a better choice, but now I know for the next time I wear this outfit.

I’m thinking about adding a photography page to the website so you guys can look at all of the photos I take in one place instead of having to go back through old posts on here and on Facebook! Let me know what you think of the idea on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Urban Oasis

Inspiration really can come from the strangest places, like your own backyard, or in my case, the city right across the river.

I’m currently attending college in Moorhead, Minnesota, which is right next to Fargo, North Dakota. Downtown Fargo is about a 5 minute drive away from campus, so getting there is pretty easy.

I love downtown Fargo because while it’s actually a decently sized city, it still has that small-town feeling. In my opinion, it’s the perfect blend of old and new. It’s a great place to go to escape college reality and enter the real world for a while.

There are so many local coffee shops, restaurants, and stores. Every time I’m there, I find something I haven’t seen before that I have to have. Exploring is so much fun. My friends and I go downtown quite a bit and just walk around to see what we can find. I, of course, always have my camera with to document our crazy adventures.

Yesterday Kalie, Allison, and I had planned on going shopping, but forgot that a lot of stores were closed or on shortened hours because it was Sunday. Instead of shopping, we walked around and took pictures, had fun, and made some memories that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

I took the photos of Kalie and Allison, and trusted Allison with my camera to get some pictures of me!

T.R.A.P.– Take Risks And Prosper

The second annual T.R.A.P. (Take Risks And Prosper) event took place on August 13th, 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show featured local fashion designers, musicians, artists, and a barber that was doing an intricate undercut design on a model.

Audience members had their chance to walk the red carpet and take photos to remember the night. Appetizers were available to snack on before the show started (including a vegetarian option), and there was a bar open during the show for those that were 21+.

Designer Martasia Person started the event last year as a “platform where artists can get together and showcase their talents in hopes of increasing the opportunity success rate in our communities.” This is a “fashion experience” featuring the talents of local creatives.

Though the event is a fashion experience, Person wanted to make sure that there was a motivational aspect to the night, saying, “I so passionately believe in the talent that lives within our cities and I wouldn’t want people to feel like their dream isn’t worth living because opportunities aren’t as apparent as it would be if they were in a bigger city.”

Each of the designers had their own unique style, influences, and backgrounds, but one thing connects them all:

Their love for fashion, and their passion for using their voices to make a difference in the world.

Click through the gallery below to see some of the amazing designs from Martasia Person, Silver Moran, Darron Chapman, Ato-Yaf, Hannah Chen, and David Maxwell.

I had an amazing time at this event and thought it was different from your “typical” fashion show. When I arrived, that’s exactly what I was expecting, but what I experienced was so much more than that. I love that this event encourages people from my own community to chase their dreams regardless of their background. Like the people at this event, I too believe that anything is possible if you have enough dedication to persue your dreams and make them into a reality.

Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July to everyone celebrating! I hope you’re all having a great (and safe!) holiday weekend.

I’ve been crazy busy working on stuff the last few weeks. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve seen some sneak-peaks at my photography. I’ve been working on editing some of the photos from the school year, and I’m hoping to have them up on here soon.

This weekend you’re going to be seeing a ton of red, white, and blue outfits all over your Instagram feeds. I wanted to share a few outfit ideas that are patriotic, but are still cute, and can be worn all summer long.

1) Dresses

A dress in red, white, or blue is great for this weekend. It makes you look patriotic, especially when you pair it with red, white, and blue accessories. The great thing about a plain-colored dress, though, is that you can wear it other than on the 4th and still look super-cute, without looking super patriotic.

2) Denim Shorts and a Plaid Shirt

This is a casual look that’s perfect for a Fourth of July bonfire. Denim shorts are a summer staple, and a plaid or checked shirt in a combination of red, white, and blue is perfect for the holiday, but can also be worn all summer.

3) White Shorts and a Striped Crop Top

This is a look that’s perfect for a day at the beach or the lake. It’s cute, casual, and still in the American spirit. You can definitley still wear this the rest of the summer, giving you that nautical-insired look that’s totally in right now.

4) Swimsuit and a Cover-Up

This is another outfit that’s perfect for spending the day at the beach or the lake. If you’re spending the day out on the water, chances are you’ll be getting wet so you’ll want you’re swimsuit on. Throw on you’re fave red, white, and blue suit, and a pair of shorts or a cotton dress along with some flips, and you’re set for a fun day!

No matter what you’re doing this weekend, here’s a checklist of must-have items for a great holiday:

  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Cute hat
  • T-shirt

Make sure you’re protected from the sun and use (and re-apply!) sunscreen and bugspray. If you start to get sunburnt, throw on a t-shirt and/or a cute hat.

Again, I hope you all have a fun, safe, and stylish 4th of July weekend!

Summer Concert Outfit Ideas

Last week I didn’t get a post up, and I’m sorry about that. I wanted to take time to plan out some new content for you guys to read and make it the best that it can be!

I’m officially back in Minneapolis for the summer! I’m super excited to be back at home because it gives me time to focus on things other than school for a few months. This summer I’ll likely be working a couple of different part-time jobs, as well as focusing on modeling, acting, and blogging. I’ll also be going to some concerts, because I love music, and summer is the perfect time to take in a bunch of shows. Check out my Festival Trends series I did about a month ago if you’re going to any music festivals!

This week I’m sharing some more outfit ideas for concerts, because even though it’s summer, not every concert is at a music festival.

Here’s some outfit inspiration for a few different genres of music that you might find yourself attending a concert for:

Pop:

Pop music is catchy and fun, even if it is over-played on the radio most of the time. Your outfit for a pop concert should be just as fun as the music you’re there to listen to! This light pink crushed velvet dress is perfect– it’s not too heavy either, so you won’t get hot while you’re dancing. I’m all about having layers in my outfits, so for this, I decided to throw a pink/purple overdyed jean jacket with studs over the dress. To finish off the look, a statement necklace and my favorite pair of Christian Siriano satin tennis shoes.

Country:

Even though I was born and raised a city girl, I still love my country music. This dress is a nice change from the typical plaid shirts you usually see at country music shows. I threw a light wash jean jacket over it for a layer, with a simple necklace, and red wedges to add some color. The second picture is the same dress and jean jacket with tan booties and a hat with a cute floral accent to change the look up a little bit.

EDM:

Until this year, I didn’t listen to much EDM music, but one of my close friends from school really likes it, so it was usually on when we were hanging out as a group. I’ve never been to a concert for this type of music, but I figured it would be similar to a music festival, which means there are lots of people, which means it gets really hot. To stay cool with all of those people around, I paired a crocheted crop top with white shorts and a checked shirt tied around the waist. I finished off this look with white Converse and a pair of sunglasses.

Indy/Local:

Technically, indy and local music are two different genres, but a lot of local musicians and bands are independent, so I’m grouping them together for this. Whether the show is inside or outside, there’s probably a lot of people, so it’s essential that you stay cool while still looking cool, especially with the added heat of summer. This outfit is casual, while still being super cute– skirts and crop tops always look good together. The jean jacket and tennis shoes give this outfit it’s casual vibe. Also, the colors are super patriotic, so it’s perfect for Memorial Day or Fourth of July!

I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday weekend!

Mikasa Beauty Brush Review

Hey guys!

So this week I decided to try something a little different and do a review of some products.

I recently purchased some brushes from Mikasa Beauty. Before buying from them, I hadn’t heard of the company before, so it was safe to say I was a little skeptical at first. After looking at their website and social media accounts, I decided to give them a chance.

I ordered their L100 Retractable Lip Brush as well as their S100 Lemon Drop Sponge. Any feelings of doubt I had went away as soon as I got them in the mail. The packaging is super sleek and professional-looking and matches their brand really well.

I went to a couple of different concerts in the last week or two, and this was the perfect opportunity to try out these products.

The S100 Lemon Drop sponge is amazing . It works so well for blending concealer and foundation, giving you a flawless look. It’s easy to use, and small enough to fit in any makeup bag, making it perfect for traveling and on-the-go makeup touchups.

Here are a few photos of my finished look(s) using the S100 Lemon Drop sponge:

Okay, so now onto the L100 Retractable Lip brush. I have to admit, I am a little obsessed with this thing. It’s seriously so cool! It retracts so that the brush is protected when you’re not using it. This also means that it’s small, and can easily be thrown into any bag or clutch for quick touchups.

It’s safe to say that after trying out these brushes, I will definitely be ordering more from Mikasa Beauty!

Festival Trends Part 3– Outfits

I can’t believe that this is already the last part of my Festival Trends series! The last 2 weeks have been a blast writing about hair and makeup trends for you guys to look for this year. This week, I’m going to be giving you some outfit inspiration for any concert or festival you may be attending this summer.

The music festival at my school is already tomorrow, and I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to wear, even though I can only go for the first part– I’m currently working on a student film on my campus, and we’re filming one of the scenes every night this week starting tomorrow. More info on that coming soon! Look for pictures and videos on my social media @koolcurlie1 on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat!

Hollister is one of my favorite stores, and right now they have a ton of cute things that are perfect for festival season this summer. Going back to the basic jeans or jean shorts is always a good idea. I paired their Vintage Boyfriend jeans and a pair of light wash shorts with a couple of their cute off-the-shoulder crop tops. All of these pieces can mix-and-match, which is something I always look for when I’m out shopping. I paired some white flip flops, a choker necklace with gold accents, and my favorite fedora with these looks.

This dress is also from Hollister. Again, it’s off-the-shoulder, which is a huge trend this summer. I paired it with the same choker, a pair of wedges, and sunglasses.

Check out the slideshow below to see how I styled one of my favorite skirts a couple different ways! I switched out the wedges for a pair of tennis shoes. Then I switched out the jean jacket for a long checked shirt and paired it with some white canvas tennis shoes.

I hope this gives you some outfit inspiration for your summer concerts! I’ll be posting about my outfits from every concert I go to this summer, so look out for those.

Festival Trends Part 2– Makeup

So last week was the first installment a three-part series I’m doing on Festival Trends for this year! Click here to read all about my favorite hair trends that will be taking over the summer music festival scene.

This week is all about makeup trends. If you’re following me on Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat, you know that I’ve been getting into makeup a lot recently. I’m not the best at it (yet!), but I still love having fun trying out different looks.

No music festival look is complete without the perfect makeup to match. Here are some of the hottest makeup trends you’ll definitely be seeing this summer.

1) Glitter!

Last week, I wrote about how glitter roots were going to be taking over this summer. Why contain the glitter to your head?! Sparkle and shine by adding some glitter to your face too!

Kalie was awesome and let me do her makeup too! We went for a really festival-inspired look with just the right amount of glitter, and fun blue and purple/pink colors to match the space buns.

I also did another glittery look on myself using gold glitter as eyeshadow. I put a little bit of primer on my eyelids, then did a neutral eyshadow as a base, and finally finished it off by adding the glitter. This actually took a lot longer than I had initially planned on, but I love the way it turned out!

2) Temporary lip tattoos
I’ve seen this popping up on my Facebook and Instagram for a little while now, and I love this look so much. It’s perfect for festival season– it’s fun, and you can honestly do whatever you want with it.

These are actually supposed to be nail tattoos, but I figured that they’d work for this, too. They worked perfectly, and after trying this look, I am officially obssessed and will definitely be rocking this look sometime this summer.

3) Red lips

You can never go wrong with a classic red lip and natural makeup. It’s classic, timeless, and goes with literally everything. Pair this with a fun hairstyle, and you’ll be ready to rock out to your favorite music!

This look is super easy– do your makeup as you normally would, and add your favorite red lipstick!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I hope you love these makeup trends as much as I do! There are so many other trends for this year that aren’t in this post– you can honestly do so much, and anything goes. If there’s a look you’ve been dying to try but never had a reason to, summer music festivals are the perfect time!
