Packing for Disney World

Hey everyone!

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post; school got really busy at the end of the semester and I’m currently taking summer classes online so I can graduate next spring!

I’m sure you’ve figured out from the title of this post, but I’m currently in Disney World! I’m on a girls trip with my best friend, Megan (who wrote this post a couple years ago when we did a fashion challenge together!), and will be coming back on Thursday. I’ve been to WDW twice before, but it’s her first time so it’s an extra-special trip!

Today, I thought I’d share some tips on what and how to pack for a Walt Disney World vacation.

Tip #1: Check the weather before you leave! It’s always hot, but it’s good to be prepared in case you’re not used to extreme heat.

Tip #2: Pack a light sweater or another light layer! Even though it’s hot during the day, it can get chilly once the sun goes down. Layers are also good in case you start to get sunburnt.

Tip #3: Bring a water bottle for in the parks! Staying hydrated is key at WDW. It’s super easy to get caught up in all of the magical attractions, rides, and yummy food that you can forget to drink water.

Tip #4: Dress for comfort, not style! You’ll be walking a lot, so make sure you’re comfortable in what you pack. This includes shoes! Make sure you break in any shoes you want to wear on your trip before you leave. Your feet will thank you!

Helpful Things I Packed:

1) Portable phone charger

I got this one at Target for about $5! Not only is it super cute, but it’s small and lightweight so it’s perfect for in your park bag!

2) Snacks!

Disney World is one of the few theme parks that will let you bring in your own food and snacks. There’s a full list of what you can and can’t bring online, so look at that before you go! We brought granola bars and some almonds.

3) Sunglasses/ Umbrella/Rain Poncho

The weather in Orlando can be unpredictable sometimes. Make sure you’re prepared for the sunshine, and the rain that will most likely hit WDW every afternoon (only for a short period of time though!).

4) Hand Sanitizer

This is always good to have! I got a cute holder for mine to clip to my bag so I can get to it easily.

5) Make Your Own Autograph book!

I bought a small sketchbook that I’m planning on having the characters sign! I’m also going to put photos in it so it doubles as a photo album too!

Don’t forget your Magic Bands if you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel!

And of course, you can’t go to Disney without a pair of ears!

Check out the gallery below for photos of my bags!

Check back next week for a recap of our trip!

Have a magical week!

South Dakota Film Festival 2018

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the South Dakota Film Festival in Aberdeen, SD where one of the student films I did last semester was showing. One of the clubs on my campus took a group of students to the festival, where we stayed for three days and two nights.

I am extremely grateful to the South Dakota Film Festival for accepting and screening “Finale of Seem,” and for being amazing hosts this weekend. It’s every actor’s dream to have their work shown at a festival, big or small, and I know this is just the beginning! If you’d like to keep up with my acting and modeling, please like my Facebook page; there’s a link at the end of this post! If you’d like to watch “Finale of Seem”, please click here.

For day one of the festival, I kept my outfit casual since we were traveling. I wore jeans, a suede tank top with fringes, and a leather jacket. This photo was taken at the after party we attended.

Day two was the day “Finale of Seem” was showing, so I dressed up a little bit. I wore black tights, a black skater skirt, a floral print crop top, and a pinkish overdyed jean jacket with studs. For makeup, I stepped it up a notch from what I usually do, including fake eyelashes.  Click through the slideshow below to see the look with and without the jacket. There’s also a photo of me with Zach Howatt, who was the amazing director for this project! This project was so much fun, and I can’t wait to work with him again in the future!

Day three was another travel day, but I still wanted to  look nice! I wore this black and floral print dress with my leather jacket and flats. I wanted to wear tights again because it was chilly, but they ripped day two.  I did natural makeup, except for the winged eyeliner.

Again, I would like to thank the people at South Dakota Film Festival and MSUM for a great weekend! I am truly so grateful for this experience and hope to go back next year!

Date Night Outfit Inspiration

Dates are stressful enough as it is, especially if the relationship is new. For us girls, picking out the perfect outfit only adds to this stress, and nothing we try on seems to be good enough.

I’m here to help with some ideas for you the next time you catch yourself asking “what should I wear tonight?”

Dressy Night Out

If you’re going somewhere like a nice restaurant and want to dress up, I recommend wearing a nice dress and heels, or a cute skirt and shirt with either flats, boots, or heels. Check out my friend Athena in this adorable long black tutu and long sleeved body suit in the photos below, and one of the outfits I wore at the Twin Cities Film Festival last year. Add a statement necklace or pair of earrings to complete one of these looks and you’ll be set to stun your date wherever you guys end up!

These outfits are for the nights that you wanna look nice, but don’t wanna overdo it. My go-to is a dress with sandals or boots (depending on the season), and a jacket or sweater for a layer. These photos are from last summer, but you could definitely wear a fall or winter dress when it gets cold out and add an infinity scarf. Check out the last photo in this collection for some inspiration!

Casual Night Out

Just because you and your S.O. are doing something low-key, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still look cute! Keep it simple with jeans and a sweater with a layered necklace like my friend Emily! Jeans and a T-shirt are also another great option with a statement necklace or scarf depending on the season.

Even though getting ready for a date can be super stressful, just remember to be yourself!

Back-to-School Outfit Ideas

Today, classes for my third year of college start. I can’t believe I’m already halfway done with college!

My favorite part of school (and going back to school) is the fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to school, learning new things, and meeting new people too, but there’s something about a new outfit that boosts your confidence and makes your feel more prepared for the year ahead.

Syllabus week in college is much more than just the first week of classes, it’s also your only chance to make a good first impression on your professors and classmates. That’s why I always put a little extra effort into my outfits the first week. Now, I’m not saying to change your style completely (unless you want to- there’s nothing wrong with re-inventing your style once in a while!), but looking and feeling good for the first week of classes will definitely make all the difference (Look Good, Feel Good, Act Good).

Tips for Picking the Perfect Outfit(s)

  • Look at the weather forecast for the day; you don’t wanna be stuck in the rain in a cute dress with no jacket or umbrella.
  • Wear sensible shoes for your schedule– If you go to a bigger school and will be walking a lot, heels or wedges probably aren’t a good idea (unless you have flats in your bag!)
  • Dress in layers: It may be warm outside, but classrooms can get pretty chilly so you’ll definitely want a sweater or jean jacket with. Once you know you’re schedule, you’ll quickly figure out which rooms are cooler and which ones are warm.
  • Be yourself! Fashion is all about expressing who you are, and what you’re feeling. Stay true to yourself and you’ll be on track for a great year!

Whoever said that you can’t look cute while still being comfortable is lying. For the first week of classes, it’s still summer, which means summer heat. Shorts and a cute shirt or graphic T-shirt will make it look like you care, but not too much. Natural makeup would go great with a look like this– again, it’s still hot out, and makeup will sweat off by the end of the day. Check out my friend Emily ready for class last year when she picked out her perfect bag for class!

If you want to wear something that looks a little bit nicer than jeans or denim shorts, a pair of dressy shorts like these with a cute shirt or bodysuit looks great, but will still be comfortable for navigating your way around campus. Pair an outfit like this with flats or sandals and you’ll be set for a great day!

If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely want your style game to be on point for syllabus week. My outfits for the first couple days of class are below. Unfortunately, I had to switch out my loose-knit sweater for a pink leather jacket and the wedges for flats for today because it’s chilly with a chance of rain where I’m at today. Tomorrow I’ll have a jean jacket with, as well as flats in my bag in case it gets chilly or my feet start to hurt.

No matter when you start classes, I hope you have a great semester! Remember to stay true to yourself and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.

Life Updates

Hey everyone!

Alexis here,

The purpose of this post is to let you guys know what’s been going on in my life since the last post went up.

I hope you guys enjoyed the posts that my classmates wrote during our second semester in our Social Media Campaigns class. They wrote some great articles and I’m hoping they’ll write an occasional post this year too.

During finals week, I had every intention of posting every week this summer and really focusing on improving this blog. Unfortunately, I ended up going through some personal stuff that has affected my life and has made me not feel like writing. For now, I’m going to keep the details of what happened to myself, and I ask that you guys as my readers please respect that. I will say that I’m finally feeling like myself again and that I’m going to start writing on here like I used to! I have a ton of posts planned and I can’t wait to share them with you all.

I hope you’ve all been enjoying your summer and are looking forward to another great school year! I’ll be doing some posts on back-to-school fashion for every age group, and tips and tricks for incoming college freshmen, plus so much more.

Until next week,

Special Occasion Inspiration

Hey everyone!

It’s Kristen, a guest content creator here on Beautiful Chaos.

Since Spring is sneaking around the corner, it’s time to get excited about warmer weather, wedding season, and graduation season! Special occasions and fancy events are a chance to set aside your everyday go-to outfit and express your style in a more formal atmosphere.

I put together three special occasion outfits to give you all a little inspiration.

  1. The first outfit is one that I would recommend wearing to a slightly more casual event, like a luncheon or an Easter party. I love the bright yellow color and subtle white detailing. It can be styled with ankle boots, heels, flats, or sandals depending on the weather.

     2. The second outfit is a similar silhouette to the first, but with the darker maroon color and detailed embroidery, it’s a bit more sophisticated. I would wear this to a graduation, a banquette, or an anniversary party.

3.The third outfit is the most formal. It’s a black romper with a sheer top section. Because it is all black, it’s easy to personalize a piece like this. You could add a statement necklace, or be a little extra when it comes to your shoe choice. It’s a buildable and classic look. I would wear this to an evening wedding or graduation.

Whether you’re giving a speech, accepting an award or a diploma, or watching a friend say “I do”, you can use these to inspire you to create a look that is special enough for the special occasion.

Girl’s Night Out

Hey all!

My name is Angela and I am back this week to give you some ideas for your next girls’ night out.

It’s fun to choose different styles customized for your outing. Whether you’re celebrating something or spending time with friends, everyone wants the perfect outfit.

When you want to get fancy, go for a dress. You may remember seeing this one in the Valentine’s Day post, only this time I traded in the flats for heels. Many of us get in the habit of wearing a dress like this to only one outing. However, this dress is not limited to only one occasion. It’s all about what you pair it with. The heels give it a more edgy and fancy look compared to flats.

Minnesota nights can be really chilly. It’s nice to stay warm while still wearing something cute. Solid colored sweaters can be boring, but there are so many options out there that dress them up. I really like this sweater because it offers a different spin on the typical cold shoulder look. If you choose a sweater for warmth, you have many options for bottoms. I really like bringing in color with my pants when I wear solid colored sweaters, so that’s what I gravitated towards. You could also change the look of the outfit with the kind of shoes you wear depending on the vibe you are trying to create.

Low-key nights out can be fun. A band t-shirt, skinny jeans, and heels are ideal for this kind of venture. Band tees are super soft and comfy. You could tune this look to your personal style by going for a darker wash jean. This outfit could always be accessorized with a bracelet. You could also do a necklace depending on the style band tee you are wearing.

Day to night outfits can be really handy if you are spending more time with your friends.

I grabbed a dress that could double as a shirt and paired it with a kimono and skinny jeans for a daytime look. The kimono could be ditched for the evening and skinny jeans could be traded for leggings. You could even wear leggings from the beginning so you would only have to lose the kimono.

When you are looking for something fashionable but chic, add a blazer or jacket to your outfit. I love sparkly and metallic shirts so I chose this shirt and added bling with the necklace. I paired the sparkly top with my favorite casual blazer. Skinny jeans and heels finished off this polished look.

No matter which one of these styles suits your personality, have lots of fun with your friends on your night out making unforgettable memories.
